Release Notes For Slack 4.31.150 (Windows), 4.33.73 (Mac), 23.09.30 (iOS), And 23.09.40 (Android)

Introduction

While there have been releases of several versions of Slack for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, I have selected one for each after much consideration.

Slack for Windows 4.31.150 (released March 20, 2023)

What's New

  • This version no longer supports Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2. Users of these devices can continue to use the last version (4.29) but will be unable to enjoy the latest features. Refer to this link for the system requirements.

  • Organizations can now manage Slack desktop client settings, both during rollout and ongoing operations. This can be configured according to industry standard tools: "Group Policies" on Windows, "User Preferences" profiles on Mac, and "Configuration Files" on Linux. Further resources on how to manage desktop app configurations can be found here.

  • You can now open the app menu by pressing the Alt key.

Bug fixes

  • There was a bug in the previous update that prevented your Slack notifications from coming up when you have another app open in fullscreen mode. Slack will continue to work on this to deliver your notifications to you just how you want them.

  • Ctrl + Shift + F now brings up the full-screen mode, which allows you to focus more or just take in the whole view.

  • The hide-and-seek being played by your notifications was caused by a misunderstanding between them and the “auto-hide” setting for the Windows taskbar.

Security guidance

There have been some minor security improvements, so we encourage you to update as it’s beneficial.

Slack for Mac 4.33.73 (released June 28, 2023)

Bug fixes

  • Punctuations will no longer affect the timely delivery and update of your deep links.

  • When you newly sign in to a government workspace, the app will automatically restart in Gov mode instead of taking you back to the login page.

  • When you click on a banner notification, you will now be redirected to the message that triggered it.

Slack for iOS 23.09.30 (released September 20, 2023)

Overview

You can expect lots of changes as the app is getting a redo! This extends to both desktop and mobile versions of Slack, as the aim is to improve focus, organization, and productivity. While you may not see these changes as soon as possible (depending on the subscription you are on), you can expect to have them in the coming weeks.

What’s new

  • Are you tired of switching between workspaces on the Enterprise Grid? Slack now has a unified grid that displays all the channels you're part of within an organization in a single view.

  • You can now easily access your DMs, Drafts, Threads, and Later sections in tidied-up headers and footers.

  • There’s now a new Activity section that groups your Mentions, Threads, Reactions, and Apps in a single and easy location.

  • Many more can be found on the blog.

Slack for Android 23.09.40 (released September 27, 2023)

What’s new

  • This is the last version that will support Android 9. To enjoy later updates, you need to update your OS.

Bug fixes

  • Deactivated users’ DMs will no longer appear in the starred section of your sidebar.

  • Draft messages in a given channel overlapping with the message input placeholder text in other channels have been fixed and will no longer occur.
