WriteTech Bootcamp; Overview

WriteTech Bootcamp; Overview

I started technical writing a few years ago but had to stop abruptly due to various circumstances, including a lack of knowledge and managing school activities and projects. Now, I'm taking another shot at it and am determined to succeed.

Enrolling in Zaycodes for technical writing proved one of my finest choices. Despite initial concerns about juggling it with my other commitments, I embraced the principle of Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well.

I was pleasantly surprised by my congratulations. Despite the tough competition, I was chosen as one of 20 out of 300 candidates. What stood out was the team's proactive approach to supporting each candidate and fostering our growth throughout the boot camp.

An onboarding session facilitated the integration of the BootCamp into individual schedules, accompanied by a shared calendar invite. The BootCamp commenced with team encouragement to excel and ask questions.

I will provide feedback for this boot camp across three categories: Content, Assessment, and Community Engagement.

Content

Hats off to the Zaycodes team for involving Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in this training, even with their busy schedules. I learned from top experts without any cost.

Oluchi guided me into technical writing, highlighting the importance of structuring content with clear sections (Introduction, Body, and Conclusion), customizing it for a specific audience, and employing appropriate tone and language.

Idris Olubisi guided me on Researching and Planning for Effective Technical Writing. He highlighted the significance of clear goals and reliable sources and outlined drafts for quality technical documents.

Continuing forward, I acquired the skill of Writing and Editing Technical Documents through guidance from Victor Ikechukwu. His approach emphasizes comprehending the principles of writing and editing, encapsulated in three key aspects:

  • Conciseness
  • Precision
  • Clarity

I possess an ebook, with provided mentoring by Olamide Makinde, who guided me in mastering Effective Formatting and Styling. She adeptly taught me how to arrange technical documents for:

  • Enhanced readability
  • Improved accessibility
  • Heightened comprehension The Zaycodes team undeniably provided valuable content.

Assesment

During the boot camp, I wrote three technical documents about Open Science and Open Source.

"Open Science: A Comprehensive Guide clarified collaboration and openness while showcasing Oluchi's content structuring advice." The Open Science Initiatives article covered various aspects of Open Science, including Open Source Software, highlighting my capacity to generate technical content from research. Finally, I presented my final project, the Open Science Initiatives Project, which delved into various Open Science and Open Source projects and their accessibility. The Zaycodes Bootcamp significantly enriched my writing portfolio.

Community Engagement

In addition to acquiring valuable technical writing skills, the BootCamp enabled me to build meaningful relationships and expand my network. Learning from experts and interacting with fellow participants who share my passion for technical writing has been inspiring and motivating.
